2. Bristol: Known for its strong tech cluster, Bristol has emerged as a cyber security hotspot. The city has a vibrant start-up scene, along with the presence of some top tech companies, making it appealing for cyber security professionals. Additionally, the city's active cybersecurity community offers excellent networking opportunities often hosting events and expo's where people travel across the country to attend.
3. Manchester: With a rapidly growing digital sector, Manchester is another city that has seen a surge in cyber security jobs. The city's focus on innovation and technology has attracted numerous businesses in need of cyber protection, creating a thriving job market in the sector.

Is It Easy to Get a Cyber Security Job in the UK?
The short answer is no, it won't be easy, however, it is achievable and there are steps you can take to increase your chances of standing out.
While the demand for cyber security professionals is high, landing a job in this field requires a lot of commitment, passion and the technical know-how of the cyber world. Cyber security currently has a huge skill gap with plenty of students and juniors looking to progress their careers whilst companies are needing highly skilled cyber security staff to help defend their businesses. With more and more people looking to get into cyber security it has caused huge competition for junior roles; we are seeing people looking to move into cyber from other industries, as well as students and military leavers. This has led to a huge increase of available junior talent applying for a limited number of roles. Even searching for SOC Analyst roles on LinkedIn you will notice a large amount of companies looking for L2/L3 analysts but less looking for L1 or junior analysts.
How Do I Get Into Cyber Security in the UK?
Getting into cyber security in the UK requires determination and a proactive approach. Here's a few steps to help you embark on your cyber security journey:

We speak with so many people who want to start a career in cyber but have no idea of which path they want to go down, it's important to have in mind the road you want to take and the positions you want to be working in. There are many options within cyber such as:
Blue teaming, SOC Analysts, Engineers who defend the company against attacks
Red teaming/Pen Testers who look for vulnerabilities within the business and see if/how they can be exploited so companies know where their security is slacking
GRC, Government risk and compliance, if you are keen on policies, risk management and compliance this is the one for you!
If you are approaching a company looking for a specific role it is more favourable than stating you want to work in cyber security.
2. Education and Training
Ensure you are educated in the path you want to take, there are great resources that don't cost a fortune, such as tryhackme, cybrary and hackthebox. These platforms can also be great for figuring out which career path you wish to take.
3. Hands-On Experience
Gain practical experience through internships, capture the flags, live labs or personal projects. This will show you know how to put your knowledge to use in a workplace.
4. Networking
Research companies that offer entry level roles within cyber, check on LinkedIn where other people have started their career and pursue these organisations. Be active on LinkedIn, share your insights in the cyber world, connect with and start conversations with other people within the industry. Attend Expo's and events where you can speak with other cyber professionals and potential employers, this is a great opportunity to grow your network while learning from industry leaders.
