My Work Experience at CND
- July 2025
This month, CND had the pleasure of hosting a work experience student in our offices. It was a rewarding opportunity to introduce them to the world of cybersecurity and spark their curiosity to explore it further. We treated the placement as we would a new employee, giving them a realistic insight into professional life and helping them build confidence in a workplace setting. Read on to learn more about their experience.
“I am Angus, a student with a growing passion for the technological world. Recently, I had an opportunity to do work experience for a week, with CND Ltd a cybersecurity business in Corsham. This is what I have learned and how this experience has shaped my view on the cyber world.
Walking in on day one, I was extremely nervous as I had never been in the office environment before. I had meeting with the CEO who chilled out my nerves as we had conversation about what the company did. He made me feel very welcome into this new environment. My supervisor then took me down to the office where I would be working for the next week. I also got a brief overview of who does what and it amazed me how many roles there were that weren’t cyber security related like recruitment.
What I wanted out of this was a taste of how it feels to actually do proper work and to feel what it is like to do higher level programming for a high level business like CND Ltd. I got that in the first few days and more, it was amazing! I built a virtual machine and then downloaded Splunk on to it. It was what I hoped for and more!
Day 2 I walked in super excited as I was going to earn the basic of how to do Splunk. It was awesome as it was similar a coding language that I had already learnt so I picked it up quite fast. I also had an overview of the infrastructure and what it is like to build and set up a computer. Day 3 I had a meeting with recruitment where I built a very good CV and I also had the weekly briefing meeting which was about how everything was going in all of the divisions. The rest of the day I was doing research for my presentation which I was going to show to the CEO at the end of the week. I was so excited but nervous. Day 4 I had a meeting about what the company offers to its clients/ customers more in depth that day one which was really cool learning how many different things the company offers. My final day I had a mock interview where I answered most of them strongly but I needed some help and advice on a few of the questions. I also did my presentation and got some needed feedback.
I learned many important life skills throughout my week with CND Ltd like how to write a CV and the body language you need for an interview. I also over came some challenges like learning regex coding language and simplifying information for my presentation.
All together this was an absolute amazing experience with that atmosphere of the building being nice and calm and all of the people that I spoke to were really kind and welcoming . I am so grateful for the opportunity that CND Ltd has given me and am inspired to continue my journey into the cyber world."
