Maritime Single Window System, is your superyacht ready? 

Are you aware of the Maritime new Single Window IMO proposal for January 2024? 

Authorities such as the UK government have mentioned in their border strategy the implementation of 'a single window' in all UK ports by the year 2025

The IMO recently approved changes to their guidelines under the FAL convention, which will make it mandatory for all member states to implement "single windows" for the electronic exchange of data between ships and shore.

The 'Single Window System' is for administrations to implement an electronic exchange of information to facilitate international trade and tourism by enabling submission of numerous regulatory documents to a single portal electronically.

So how does this affect superyachts?

In June 2021, the IMO issued "Guidelines for Setting up a Maritime Single Window" to establish resilient ports, with the aim to make the experience smoother and more secure for passengers and traders.

Superyachts owners and their crew will need to be able to use the 'single window system' to send data electronically for immigration, port clearance and any other relevant documents. Therefore, all captains will need an adequate level of cyber security onboard their yacht to safeguard the single window system from vulnerabilities present in third party systems.
