As Gold ERS holders, we are lucky to have access to unique opportunities. In Summer 2023 CND were invited to attend the RAF Halton 'Employer Engagement Management and Leadership Experience'. This was a national event with over 50 participants from a variety of industries, taking part.
Upon arrival, on a rather drizzly day the attendees were split into randomly selected syndicates, ensuring each groups included a cross section of organisations. This was swiftly followed by exceptional, well organised team building exercises, the first half including outside junior and senior level command tasks.
The groups were pushed to their physical and mental limits racing to complete several challenges from Land Rover tyre removal using only the limited kits available, to creating bridges to cross ditches and obstacles.
After a debrief and learning points shared, the groups had a opportunity to enjoy lunch and do some networking.
Once everyone had recovered, the second half the day started with officer level challenges including problem solving and planning scenarios under extreme pressure, such as performing calculations (S=D/T) and assessments to produce COA. This was followed by a spaceship simulator with each member focusing on different stations, such as weapons, comms, engineering and bridge. It was this challenge especially that highlighted the importance of strong communication and command which was one of the key take aways Team CND took from the day.
The day concluded with certificate presentations and the chance to say farewell to newly formed teams. A truly wonderful and exciting day had by all attending, gaining some valuable new knowledge about the importance of communication throughout a tight knit team. Something that will be effectively utilised within CND. Not to mention, a nostalgic and unwavering soft spot for the RAF.
