Andy Cuff the founder and CEO of UK based Information Security Consultancy and Staffing Agency, Computer Network Defence, was invited to join the line-up of speakers McAfee announced for its annual security conference, FOCUS10. This year the conference took place on October 12 -14 in Las Vegas and the event provided three days of learning and networking focused on improving security initiatives across the world.

 

Rees Johnson, a Senior VP and General Manager of Network Security at McAfee, responsible for the strategic direction of the McAfee Network Security business explains, “FOCUS is an important event for us, it gives everyone an opportunity to share and further their knowledge on today’s security objectives and progress.” Johnson continued, “We do this by inviting McAfee customers, experts and select partners to deliver sessions on key topics for anyone who wants to listen.”

 

Within the 70 sessions planned for FOCUS 10, key note speakers joining Andy Cuff included President Bill Clinton, David DeWalt the President and CEO of McAfee, Andrew Miller the CEO of Polycom and Michael Harvey, Senior VP of Xerox.

 

“Computer Network Defence has unique technical expertise in specifying, deploying and managing network security solutions for some of the most critical networks around the world” explained Rees Johnson “We wanted our customers to have insight to the best practices that they have developed, and were honored to have Andy Cuff share his expertise at Focus10.”.

 

Andy’s talk was titled ‘Network Intrusion Prevention Deep Dive – Alert Tuning Best Practices and More’.  As the controller of one of McAfee’s largest deployments, Andy covered the initial set up and core settings of the McAfee IDS and shared some proven strategies used in order to reduce ‘noise’ or false alerts from hundreds of thousands to hundreds within his network.
